Man shot at in Shopian; Grenade attack in Baramulla

SHOPIAN: Unidentified gunmen Saturday evening shot and injured a civilian in Keegam village of Shopian. He was referred to Bone and Joints Hospital of Barzula, Srinagar, after first aid in Shopian hospital.
Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat (30), son of Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, resident of Keegam, was shot in his leg by the unknown gunmen near his home. Police sources said that Mukhtar has three bullet injuries in his legs, but his condition is stable. He was referred to Srinagar for further treatment.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Shopian, S A Dinkar confirmed the incident and said that Mukhtar was not affiliated to any political party. “He was shot and injured by militants,” he said.
Later, a man hunt was launched by government forces to nab the attackers.
Pertinently, a Territorial Army sepoy, Irfan Ahmad Dar, was killed recently by unidentified gunmen in Wotmula village. He was a resident of Sazan village of Shopian.
Meanwhile, suspected militants on Saturday evening hurled a grenade towards Police Station Baramulla in.
A police official said that the militants attacked the police station with a grenade at around 7 PM. However, the device missed its intended target and exploded on the side of the road with a loud bang.
Following the attack, policemen fired a few shots in air.
Soon after the incident, government forces launched searches in the area to nab the attackers.
