Srinagar: After 18 prisoners, including four Kashmiris, were mercilessly beaten in Tihar Jail, the jail authorities have suspended all prison staff alleged to be involved in the incident, the daily Mail Today reported on Friday.
The report stated that Tihar authorities have submitted a detailed report to the Indian Home Ministry about the incident, which took place on the night of November 21.
The inmates who were ruthlessly beaten include Shahid Yousuf, son of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, and Ehtisham, a native of Sopore, who has been arrested allegedly for his links with a militant outfit.
However, reports said that no FIR had been registered over the incident till late on Thursday.
When Ehtisham, one of the victims of the assault, was produced before a local court in Sopore regarding an old case, he showed the brutal assault marks on his body to the session judge. The judge ordered immediate admission of the victim to hospital. Doctors at Sopore sub-district hospital referred Ehtisham to Srinagar hospital SKIMS for treatment of his grave injuries.
