Gamblers held in Baramulla, stake money recovered

Baramulla: Continuing its drive against gamblers, drug paddlers and other unscrupulous elements, the police in Pattan have arrested six gamblers during a raid at a gambling site near railway station Buran. Six gamblers have been arrested.
Police identified these gamblers as Mohammad Imran Bhat son of Gulam Mohiudin Bhat, Ashraf Sofi son of Gulam Qadir Sofi, Mohammad Sadiq Khan son of Sanaullah Khan, Mohammad Sadiq Zaroo son of Habibullah residents of Buran, Assadullah Bhat son of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat of Pattan and Abdul Majeed Dar son of Mohammad Subhan Dar, resident of Trikolbal.
Police claimed that they have recovered playing cards and stake money worth Rs 5870 from their possession. Locals hailed the efforts of police in eradicating social crimes. Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered in police station Pattan against them and investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, Baramulla police claimed to have recovered 18 kilograms of poppy straw in the same area.
Police said that acting on specific information a police team led by SDPO and SHO Pattan laid naka near TCP Hyderbiegh. During checking of vehicles and pedestrians, police detained a person carrying two bags containing poppy straw weighing 18 kilograms. The carrier was identified as Abdul Hamid Bhat son of Gulam Nabi Bhat resident of Andergam Pattan. Police have registered a case vide FIR No 223/2017 under section 8/15 NDPSA and investigation is taken up.
