Hajin (Bandipora): Suspected militants attacked the residence of Congress leader Imtiyaz Yousuf Parray, whose father Mohammad Yousuf Parray alias Kuka Parray was an infamous Ikhwan or government-backed militia commander, here in northern Kashmir’s Bandipora district. Imtiaz said that a grenade was hurled inside the compound of his house at Hajin area of the district during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. No one was hurt in the attack, he said.
“I was not present in the house but the grenade was hurled at around 2am,” Parray told Kashmir Reader on Sunday morning.
Parray lives with his family and his brother Khursheed at the ancestral house in Hajin town.
“The grenade exploded inside the compound with a big bang. However, no damage or injuries were caused by the explosion,” Parray said.
The security guards of Khursheed Parray “immediately opened fire in the air but the militants had fled the spot,” he said.
Imtiyaz called the attack an act of “cowardice” and asked the government to strengthen his security cover.
“The government must not forget the role my father played. It must immediately sanction a bullet-proof vehicle and enhance the security cover,” he said.
The police have lodged an FIR into the incident under Section 307 RPC under number 41/2017.
