Appeals ‘kind-hearted’ people in India to seek Kashmiri prisoners’ release
SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani has expressed his serious concern over the deteriorating health condition of senior resistance leader Shabir Ahmad Shah in Tihar jail, saying he is suffering from multiple ailments and is not being provided with specific treatment.
“The incarcerated leader (Shah) is being subjected to political vendetta,” Geelani said in a statement.
“Those languishing in Tihar (namely) Altaf Ahmed Shah, Peer Saifullah, Ayaz Akbar, Raja Meraj-u-Din Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Zahoor Ahmed Watali, Kamran Yousuf, Shahid Yusuf and others are (subjected to) ill treatment and in absence of proper medical care are facing immense hardships. Despite their falling health, no medical treatment or care is provided to them.”
Geelani has appealed to Amnesty International, Asia Watch, and other international organisation for human rights to break silence and take cognisance of the plight of these detainees besides use influence for their immediate release.
The Hurriyat chairman also appealed to all “kind-hearted” people in India to show “human approach” and impressed upon them to use their influence to secure immediate release of all detainees.
He also condemned the continuous house arrest of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat general secretary Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar (spokesperson) and Mohammad Ashraf Laya, saying authorities are following a “policy of revenge” against the resistance leaders thus creating an atmosphere of anarchy and pushing people to the wall. “It is the deliberate policy of government to keep resistance leadership away from people,” he said.
Meanwhile, paying glorious tributes to slain militant Adil Chopan, Geelani said the sacrifices of youth are the “most precious assets of the ongoing resistance struggle (who) sacrifice their today for our tomorrow”.
Praying for heavenly abode for the deceased and forbearance to the bereaved family, the pro-freedom leader said the resistance leadership and “whole nation” shares grief with the grieved family.
A Hurriyat delegation comprising of Bashir Ahmad Qureshi, Omer Adil Dar visited the bereaved family, participated in the funeral prayers, the statement said. While addressing the mourners, the delegation conveyed condolence message of Syed Ali Geelani.
