Gunfight rages in Kupwara forests

Srinagar: A gunfight between militants and government forces started in Zurhama forests of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday afternoon.
A police officer told news agency GNS that a joint team of Army’s 23 Para commandos, 160 TA, SOG and CRPF Cordoned off the forest area in Gujarpati, Zurhama, following specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
As the joint team intensified the searches, the hiding militants opened fire triggering a gunfight. When last reports came in intermittent firing was going on. (GNS)
