SHOPIAN: Government forces on Monday launched cordon and search operations (CASO) in half-a-dozen Shopian villages.
A joint team of the army, SOG and CRPF conducted door-to-door searches in several villages. No contact with militants was established.
The villages where searches were conducted are Amshipora, Chitterpora, Nowgam, Shamsipora and Ramnagri. Heavy deployment of forces was laid in orchards and nearby villages as well.
A top police official said the exercise was a part of anti-militancy operations after inputs of the presence of militants in the villages.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Shopian, S A Dinkar told Kashmir Reader that 25 to 30 militants were present in the district. “Door-to-door searches were conducted in several areas. Later the operation was called off as no contact with militants was established,” he said.
This was the eighth massive operation this year in which more than four villages were cordoned and searched by forces.
