Police dept will spend Rs 1.8 crore on sports this year

Srinagar: Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the “Martyrs Memorial” football tournament held on the new synthetic turf in Srinagar stadium, Director General of Police SP Vaid said on Sunday that the police were at the forefront in guiding the youth of the state to the right path.
“Police have remained in forefront for channelising energy of youth in positive endeavours through games in the state,” Vaid said.
He said that the police department will be spending Rs 1.80 crore for various sports activities in the state. “The money has been allocated to different wings of J&K Police for promotion of games in the state,” he said.
A police official said that the department is spending the money under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) through various tournaments in cricket, football, water sports, wall climbing, run for fun, athletics, etc, which have been held since March this year and “will continue up to the coming March”.
“It will provide the youth of Kashmir a platform to showcase their talent and capabilities,” he said.
At the inaugural function of the Martyrs Memorial gootball tournament, the DGP had said that the police had received “massive support from the public” in their sports events.
Besides the police, the para-military CRPF is also holding tournaments in at least three districts to “engage the youth”.
