SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee (JKCC) has expressed shock over the recent statement made by the Chief Minister at Kashmir Business Conclave, were she had said that Kashmiri people beat their chests for months and then settle down again demanding waivers and incentives for the losses.
The committee in its handout said that the statements issued at the said conclave have pained them and left them shell shocked and horrified to realize that those who claim to be “our own” are so sarcastic and imply that we qualify to be in the list of beggars and people seeking alms.
Condemning these statements it has sought an unconditional apology from the person/s that has chosen to say so.
It added that Kashmir businessmen are carrying their businesses in such adverse circumstances, where their territory is a declared disturbed area, a conflict zone and having the draconian laws such as Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). Public Safety Act (PSA) etc in place.
“Even in these adverse circumstances we are trying to make our ends meet, generally with a profit margin of 5 to 10 percent and at the same collect taxes to the tune of 28 percent on behalf of the Government to fill its coffers,” it said adding that this runs the government, not the other way round.
In the given circumstances, the business leaders have the duty to seek the rights for their members; after all they are tax payers and financiers to the State Government.
