People in Rafiabad allege bribes for repair

Baramulla: Residents in Pattan blocked the Srinagar-Baramulla highway on Friday while protesting against Power Development Department(PDD). Residents from Tali Mohalla, Khanday Mohalla and Miyan Mohalla of Pattan gathered early morning on the highway and alleged that the PDD had failed to repair the damaged transformer of their locality.
They said the transformer was lying in a workshop for past 15 days, while the locality was reeling under darkness. The angry protesters blocked leading to a traffic jam in the town.
Police and civil administration reached the spot and promised to redress the grievance after which the protesters dispersed.
Meanwhile, residents of Sain village in Rafiabad are up in arms against PDD for not repairing their power transformer, who they said was lying in a workshop for past month. They said the transformer of Nambardar Mohla was gutted more than a month ago and the officials moved it to a workshop only after lot of complaints, but since then it was lying there.
They alleged that workshop employees were demanding bribes for its repair.
Similarly, residents of Malik Mohla Budan Rafiabad said that their electric transformer was damaged 20 days ago and was awaiting repair in a workshop since.
