Srinagar: Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged heavy fire along the LoC in Poonch district Friday, and targeted each other’s positions and civilian areas, reports said.
“Pakistani army today morning resorted to unprovoked mortar shelling and firing along targeting some Indian positions and civilian areas in Gulpur and Nakarkote sectors,” defence sources said. “The firing is going on intermittently.”
According to the official sources, schools falling in the affected areas have been closed as a precautionary measure.
According to defence sources, over 600 incidents of cease-fire violations were recorded along the LoC and International Border (IB) since the beginning of this year.
Both New Delhi and Islamabad accuse each other of resorting to unprovoked firings and violating cease-fire agreements. And both sides maintain that their troops gave befitting reply.
