Baramulla: President of the National Conference (NC) Dr Farooq Abdullah said on Wednesday that India won’t be able to capture Pakistan-administered Kashmir because “Pakistan is not wearing bangles”.
“They (Pakistan) are not wearing bangles. They have the atom bomb,” Farooq said, referring to talk in India of taking back the Pakistani side of Kashmir.
Speaking at a rally in the border town of Uri, Farooq said that Kashmiris were not slaves of anyone. “Some are trying to make us slaves through army, police and other agencies, but I want to inform them that we will struggle for our honour till death,” he said.
The 82-year-old Farooq said that the National Conference wants talks between India and Pakistan and friendship between the two countries. He said there should be no border dividing parts of Kashmir.
Before Farooq spoke, NC leaders Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Chowdhri Mohammad Ramzan and others congrats the son of Uri MLA Mohammad Shafi Uri, Dr Sajad, who formally joined the NC and will stand as the party’s candidate from Uri in the next elections.
A large number of people from several areas of Uri, including from Salambad, Kamalkote, Uri, Chandanwari, Bijhama, Pehlipora, Boniyar, and Nowshera, arrived in hundreds of vehicles at the rally where MLA Mohammad Shafi Uri, Farooq Abdullah, and other leaders addressed the gathering.
Farooq advised Dr Sajad to be honest in politics.
Dr Sajad Shafi is a doctor who resigned from his job last year to get into politics.
