Mehbooba seeks safety audit of all shrines in Kashmir

Directs early restoration at Khanqah i Mou’la; INTACH to come up with drawings within two days

SRINAGAR: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday directed Wakf Board, Fire & Emergency Services, PDD, PHE, Police, and SMC to conduct a safety audit of shrines in Kashmir and take immediate fire prevention measures at these places of reverence.
Chairing a high-level meeting after the incident of fire at Khanqah i Mou’la the night following Tuesday, Mehbooba Mufti directed all concerned Departments to conduct a joint safety audit and come up with precautionary measures required to protect the shrines.
She also directed the administration to install fire hydrants, smoke alarms, CCTV cameras and other safety equipment at all shrines in the state.
The Chief Minister, who is also the chairperson of the Wakf Board, sought her administration to immediately start restoration work at Khanqah i Mou’la. She asked INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) to come up with drawings for restoration within two days.
She assured that money would be no constraint in the completion of restoration works at the shrine, which she described as civilizational soul for the people of the State.
The CM expressed her deep appreciation for the local youth who came forward and prevented the fire from spreading. She directed the local administration to prepare list of such volunteers so that they would be suitably rewarded.
