JAMMU: Underscoring the need for reviving and revitalisation of marketing societies and sale outlets of cooperative department in the state, Minister of State for Forest, Environment, Animal, Sheep Husbandry, Cooperative and Fisheries, Mir Zahoor Ahmad on Tuesday flagged off 64th Cooperative Week being celebrated by the cooperative department in collaboration with J&K Cooperative Union Limited and Indian Farmer Fertiliser Corporation Limited at Cooperative Office Complex Jammu, an official press note read.
This year’s theme of Cooperative Week is “Empowering People through Digitalisation of Cooperatives” which observed from November 14 to 20.
According to the press note, the main objective of celebrating Cooperative Week is to increase public awareness and motivate more and more people to join cooperative sector at grassroots level to take cooperative movement forward.
Mir Zahoor stressed for revival of cooperative movement in the state and asked the concerned officers to work with utmost zeal and dedication so that the movement reached its destination in a true spirit.
He said that cooperative sector had a huge potential and asked the field and development agencies to make collective efforts to revive the movement.
“Hard work, honesty and sincerity are basic values which need to be adopted for smooth functioning of cooperative organisations,” Zahoor added.
To educate general masses about the benefits being given by the business units of the cooperative, Zahoor called for organising of awareness camps at Halqa levels in the state.
The minister also asked for demarcation of all assets of cooperative department in the state. He asked that there should be no encroachment on cooperative assets and also instructed to formulate proposals for setting up of new business units and to submit the same to the concerned quarters for further action, read the press note.
Secretary, Cooperative Bashir Ahmad Bhat urged upon the functionaries to evolve better work culture by putting in their sincere efforts to give fillip to this ‘movement of the people’.
Registrar Cooperative J&K Peerzada H U Shah highlighted the importance of celebration of the Cooperative Week, role of cooperative societies and the achievements registered by the department.
He said, “The department is contemplating to modernise the cooperative schools with all high-tech facilities.”
