Handwara: A court here on Monday sent incarcerated J&K Muslim League chairman and Syed Ali Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference secretary general Masarat Alam to a two-day police remand.
A Muslim League spokesperson told Kashmir Reader that Alam was presented before the court on Monday by a police party from Handwara police station, where he has been detained since late Saturday night.
He said that 48-year-old Alam has been slapped with charges under u/s 13 ULA, 148, 147 and 124 RPC in FIR no. 30/2015, registered against him in police station Kralgund during his 40-day release from jail that year.
The Muslim League chairman was rearrested last Friday outside Kotbalwal Jail, from where he was shifted to Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) Jammu and then brought to Handwara on Saturday. He was released from jail after the J&K High Court quashed the Public Safety Act detention order slapped against him for the 35th time early this year.
Alam has been undergoing detention since `18 October 2010 after he was arrested for spearheading public uprising.
