PULWAMA: Clashes erupted between locals and government forces when the latter launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in a Pulwama village on Sunday evening. The CASO was started in Rangmulla village by a joint team of army, police SOG and paramilitary CRPF. A tip-off had reportedly been received about the presence of militants in the village.
“Soon after the government forces launched the CASO, local youths pelted them with stones, which resulted in clashes as the forces resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the protestors,” local sources told Kashmir Reader.
SSP Pulwama, Mohammad Asalam Choudhry, said that a “few minors” pelted stones on government forces. He said that the stone-pelters left the spot after a few teargas shells were fired towards them

Locals said that house-to-house searches were carried out by government forces at Sheikh Mohalla of Namblabal during late night. “The government forces retreated at about 4am, without finding anyone,” locals said.
The CASO in Namblabal was launched after police received inputs of presence of militants there, a senior police officer said.
