OIC supports Kashmiris’ legitimate struggle: Hurriyat (M)

SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led Hurriyat Conference on Saturday said the OIC has reiterated it full support to the people of Kashmir in their “legitimate struggle” for the fundamental right to self-determination.
According to a statement issued by the conglomerate, the OIC Secretary General Dr Yousaf Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen has urged upon the Government of India (GoI) to “stop using force” against the Kashmiri people.
Othaimeen was addressing a seminar-cum-photo exhibition on Kashmir organised by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation at the OIC Secretariat, Jeddah, on Thursday (November 9).
Speaking on the occasion, Convenor of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), AJK Chapter, Syed Faiz Naqashbandi, briefed the audience about prevailing situation and continuous human rights violations in Kashmir, the statement said. He called on the international community and OIC in particular to play their role so that Kashmiri people can exercise their inherent right of self-determination.
Pakistan Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Khan Hasham bin Saddique thanked OIC and Saudi Arabia for supporting the cause of the people of Kashmir. He highlighted the plight of Kashmiris and urged the international community to persuade India to end human rights violations. “The Government of Pakistan will continue to extend all moral, political and diplomatic support to Kashmiri people in their historic struggle,” he said.
Members of the Kashmir Committee Jeddah presented a resolution calling OIC to redouble its efforts to resolve the Kashmir issue.
The seminar-cum-photo exhibition on Kashmir at OIC Secretariat has become an annual feature for the past five years. The event was attended by high level OIC officials including Ambassador Abdullah Al-Alim, OIC’s Secretary General’s Special Representative on Jammu and Kashmir, Saudi officials, members of Diplomatic Corps, local dignitaries and representatives of Pakistan and “AJK” community.]
