Baramulla: Hundreds of people from Watergam area of Rafiabad in Baramulla district locked a power receiving station in the area on Friday morning. People from Dangiwacha, Watergam, Thagund, Bahrampora and other villages chanting anti PDD slogans reached the Watergam market Friday morning and kicked out the employees from the receiving station before locking it up.
The protesting people alleged that the receiving station provides electricity to different areas of the district “but the villages which gave their lands for its construction are living in dark”.
Police later reached the spot and motivated the people to disperse peacefully. However, the protestors threatened to damage the receiving station, if the power situation does not improve, Mohammad Iqbal a local resident said.
