Baramulla: A health center was approved by the authorities to be set up in Motal village of Uri along the Line of Control (loC) but seven years have passed, the construction work could not be taken to logical conclusion. Officials say that the hospital’s construction was taken up under tribal sun-plan but it stopped after the central government halted funding to the project.
Locals said that they struggled hard to get the health facility approved in 2011 by the state health department and the construction work was entrusted to a local contractor. The work on the project was started in March but it was stopped only after two months. The construction site was rendered unattended after the work was abandoned.
The remote Motal village is closer to LoC and the local residents are unable to access health facilities should they require them at any point in time.
An official of the health department said that primary health centre was approved for the village under the tribal scheme but in the same year the government of India stopped funding to the scheme. He said that the department wrote to the higher authorities several times but there was no headway.
