SRINAGAR: The mysterious beard cutting incident in Batamaloo took a new twist as the ‘victim’, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, alleged ‘some people, including his relatives’ for running a smear campaign against him.
Bhat on Friday staged protest in press enclave and alleged that some people were maligning his image on social media by claiming that he staged the incident.
Bhat said that a smear campaign has been launched to float an impression that he cut his beard to prevent repayment of loan he has raised.
“I don’t have taken money from anyone. Would I disrespect sunnah (tradition of Prophet PBUH) for money?” he said. “Those who say I have to adjust money should prove if I have ever taken even a loan of Rs 500 from anybody,” he said.
He claimed that hospital prescription and first information report (FIR) mentions that some spray was used before cutting off his beard. He also displayed medical records before the media persons.
Police on Thursday in a statement claimed that Bhat enacted drama of beard cutting for stealing cash from his shop to escape bank loan repayment. However Bhat did not speak against police. He was later detained by police officials and logged inside Kothibagh Police Station.
A police officer at Kothibagh told Kashmir Reader that they shifted Bhat to Batamaloo police station. However when Kashmir Reader contacted Batamaloo Police Station regarding Bhat’s detention they refused to accept that he was with them.
