Shopian: The Personal Security Officer (PSO) of a senior leader of National Conference (NC) was shot at and injured by unidentified gunmen in Arhama village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
The injured policeman has been identified as Ashiq Hussain Rather of Pulwama.
“He has been shot in the right shoulder and is stable. He has been referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment,” a senior police official from Shopian told Kashmir Reader.
Hussain is the security guard of Advocate Shabir Ahmad Kullay, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLC).
It was however not clear whether Kullay was accompanying Hussain at the time of the shooting or not. Multiple phone calls on Kullay’s number went unanswered.
The incident took place at around 8:30 PM Wednesday evening at a petrol pump in Arhama. The petrol pump is, as per sources, owned by Kullay.
Following the shootout huge contingent of government forces reached the area and searches were carried out to try and nab the attackers, who had fled by then.
