Say their degree has been turned ‘useless’
SRINAGAR: Scores of unemployed horticulture graduates on Saturday staged a protest against what they called ‘useless’ eligibility criteria for various government posts advertised by sate Services Selection Board (SSB) and Public Service Commission (PSC).
The protesters assembled inside the press enclave in Srinagar and raised slogans seeking justice.
President of the All J&K Horticulture Unemployed Graduates, Amir Bashir Wani, told Kashmir Reader that PSC has kept MSC Horticulture as the eligibility criteria for various posts in the Horticulture department while for all others disciplines the basic eligibility criteria is graduation in the concerned discipline “which is sheer injustice”.
“Similar is the case with the SSB which advertised non-gazetted posts and has kept diploma in Horticulture as criteria for various posts lying vacant instead of graduation in the concerned discipline,” Amir said. “We are caught between devil and deep sea,” Amir added.
Another protester Waseem said that BSC Horticulture course was started in 2007 at Sher-e- Kashmir Agricultural University of Science and Technology (SKUAST- K) and till date none of the 700 pass outs have been engaged by the government.
“It is an ironic that year 2017 has been declared as horticulture year by the state government but it has no plans to engage trained and qualified human resource,” he complained.
Iftisam, another protester, said that she was in state of trauma as she feels that her degree is worthless in terms of employment opportunities.
“My parents taunt me for opting for this course saying they have wasted hard earned money on my education,” she said.
The protesters warned that in case their issues are not addressed they will have no other option than to burn their degrees certificates in front of the Civil Secretariat.
