Govt establishes Milk, Poultry Villages at Banyari, Tergam

The Department of Animal Husbandry, Kashmir has established first of its kind Milk Village at Banyari in Hajin block and Poultry Village at Tergam in Sumbal block of District Bandipora.

The Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir, Mohammad Yousuf Chapro in a communication said that the step have been taken on the directions of the Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli and with the strenuous efforts of the field staff of the Department. The relevant activities in the villages start in shortest possible time.

The Minister for Animal and Sheep Husbandry has already given instructions to the Department to establish such units in all the districts of the State. He asked the Department to explore the possibilities for setting up of Milk and Poultry villages in the State.

Officials said District Bandipora is the first district in the State to have established Milk & Poultry Villages with an aim to promote self-sustenance and employment generation.

The funds for the establishment of Dairy Unit at Banyari have been provided by NABARD while for the establishment of Poultry Units at Tergam, the funds have been provided by MLC, Yasir Ahmad Reshi.

On the directions of the Minister, the department has already established Eighteen (18) cow units at Banyari Village while twenty (20) poultry units of 100 birds each at 100% subsidy will be established in Hajan Block next week. Officials said poultry feed for the first week shall also be provided to the beneficiaries.
