Will release only on court orders: Police
SRINAGAR: Despite official’s assurance that tree gauds outside Safa Kadal police station will be handed over to the concerned department, the iron fences are still enclosing part of the road in violation of law.
Station House officer (SHO) Police Station Safa Kadal said, “It is a seized property, we cannot give it unless and until the concerned department approaches us. They have to get a release order from court, after which we will hand over these tree guards.”
These tree guards had been deployed by the Roads and Building Department (R& B) along the Nalla Mar Road were uprooted at several places and piled up by police near Safa Kadal police station. They fences have been put in place to create a barricade that encroaches the adjoining road.
Kashmir reader had earlier reported that the tree guards, used to secure avenue plantations, have come handy for police station to secure their building.
Executive Engineer Landscape Division R&B Mohammad Yousuf Trumboo, told Kashmir Reader, “I have contacted my officials who said these tree gauds are installed by the division 1 and division 2 of R&B. Now I will contact them and so that they will look into the matter.”
From the last six months, these fences have been used to secure a part of the road for make shift parking by police. Chief Enforcement Officer of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Ghulam Rasool, said that they have not received any report of encroachment from the people. “We have to take action during a working day. We will look into the matter,” he said after the matter was brought to his notice.
