340 Kg poppy straw, charas recovered in anti-drug drive in Pulwama

Srinagar: Police has launched a drive against drug menace in Pulwama and arrested seven alleged drug peddlers during raids at different places and recovered more than 340 kilograms of poppy straw and charas from their possession.
A police statement said that on Friday night, a police party intercepted a load carrier driven by one Ishfaq Ahmad Rather of Frasipora and recovered 13 bags containing poppy straw weighing about 140 Kg from the vehicle. The driver and another person Mohammad Lateef Kuchay, alleged to be a known smuggler, were arrested on spot.
On the disclosures of Kuchay, 50 kilograms of poppy straw was further recovered his house. A case FIR number 64/17 under section 8/15, 18, 29 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Rajpora.
Meanwhile, a police party conducted number of raids at Arihal, Batpora and Malapora villages on Saturday. During these raids, huge quantity of poppy straw and charas powder was recovered.
Around 44 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from house of one Abdul Rashid Mir of New Colony Arihal. A case FIR number 307/17 under section 15/18 NDPS Act was registered in PS Pulwama. Six kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from the house of Gulzar Ahmad Khan resident of Kralpora Arihal. A case FIR number 308/17 under section 15/18 NDPS Act was registered in PS Pulwama. Thirteen kilograms of charas powder was recovered from cow shed of Nazir Ahmad Bhat resident of Hargam Arihal. A case FIR number 309/17 under section 15/18 NDPS Act stands registered in PS Pulwama.
100 kilograms of Poppy Straw was recovered from the house of known smuggler Bashir Ahmad Gato of Naina Batpora. A case FIR number 310/17 under section 15/18 NDPS Act stands registered in PS Pulwama.
30 kilograms of charas dust was recovered from the house of Fayaz Ahmad Bhat resident of Malapora. A case FIR number 312/17 under section 15/18 NDPS Act stands registered in PS Pulwama.
