Kangan: People of Ninhama in Ganderbal district Thursday blocked Srinagar-Leh highway for at least two hours at Bonibagh Kangan while protesting against PHE department for non-availability of drinking water in their village.
Men and women assembled and sat on the highway chanting slogans against the PHE and administration.
“We are facing acute shortage of drinking water, and whatever we get is contaminated,” said a protester. “We are going through miserable conditions.”
Residents alleged that for more than a month they were not receiving regular supply of drinking water which had made life difficult for them.
The villagers threatened to go for a complete “highway bandh” protest, if their problem was not redressed in a few days.
However, after the officials from PHE and police visited the spot and assured people that their demands will be fulfilled within a couple of days.
