KULGAM: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) organized a workshop on dairy development in Kulgam district. The programme was attended by bankers and officials from animal husbandry department. DC Kulgam, Talat Parvez was the chief guest on the occasion.
According to a press note issued Thursday, the workshop was held in order to promote dairy development for creating sustainable livelihood in the district under centrally sponsored scheme, DEDS (Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme) which is being implemented through NABARD.
Speaking on the occasion, DDM (District Development Manager) NABARD, Rouf Zargar informed that DEDS was operational till September and farmers can draw the benefits of the scheme by availing loan assistance from banks.
Under the scheme, NABARD will provide subsidy of 25% for general category beneficiaries and 33.33% for SC/ST, the DDM informed. He said that the last date for applying for the assistance is September 30 and the loans will be sanctioned on first come first serve basis. A detailed PowerPoint presentation was given along with the technical and financial details of the scheme.
DC Kulgam, Talat Parvez emphasized the need for developing dairy sector in the district along with strong market linkages within and outside the district so that farmers get remunerative prices for their produce. He called upon the bankers to finance under the sector and pass on the subsidy benefits to the farmers. Development of dairy units would provide assured regular income to the farming community along with agriculture, he said.
The workshop was attended by bankers, officers from animal husbandry, lead banks, NRLM, NGOs, besides a number of progressive dairy farmers were present in the workshop.
