SRINAGAR: A 27-year-old patient from North Kashmir’s Baramulla district is battling for her life at Lal Ded hospital after she delivered a baby boy at the maternity facility on Monday. The boy died while the women is on a ventilator.
Her family alleges medical negligence led to her critical condition while doctors claim that the “patient suffered post partum haemorrhage, which is an uncertain condition”.
Aliya, 27, who was accompanied by her husband from Kreeri, Baramulla was admitted in the LD hospital on Sunday. “She had undergone caesarean section in the morning and immediately started bleeding. Doctors told us that she needs another surgery to stop her bleeding. They also removed her uterus in the second surgery. However, bleeding didn’t stop. She went into coma and is battling for life. This all happened due to the negligence of doctors,” one of her family members alleged.
This was Aliya’s first baby, the relative said. “Doctors at the eleventh hour told us that her uterus has to be removed immediately. If there were some complications, why did not doctors tell us before?” another relative said, angry over the alleged medical negligence.
Witnessing the death of the baby in the hospital, people present there started demonstrations against the hospital administration.
According to Medical Superintendent Lal Ded Hospital, Dr Nazir Malik, the woman suffered post partum haemorrhage immediately after surgery which caused excessive bleeding.
Dr Malik said he had directed the doctors to monitor her condition to save her. “This time our focus is on saving patients life. A whole team of doctors led by HOD Dr Taing is looking after the patient. We will address to grievances and allegations later,” he told Kashmiri.
