Noted poet Ahsan dies, Governor, CM grieved

SRINAGAR: Kashmir’s prominent literary figure Muhammad Ahsan Ahsan died here on Wednesday after brief illness. He was 86.
Muhammad Ahsan was referred to Srinagar hospital after he complained of chest pain. He is survived by his wife and a son. Mohammad Ahsan Parray alias Ahsan Ahsan, a resident of Hajin was a famous poet in the area.
A teacher by profession, Ahsan had later joined JK Academy of Art, culture and languages as a research officer.
He was closely associated with the linguist movement led by Adbi Markaz Kamraaz, its statement said.
“Ahsan worked with AMK from the beginning and vociferously advocated the protection of Kashmir language and culture,” it said, “Ahsan was uncompromising and always spoke his mind.”
As a president of Halqi Adab Hajin, the AMK statement said, Ahsan contributed his expertise to groom the young poets and scholars.
He was a member of Idara-i-Awqaaf Hajin and Patron of Hajini Memorial Public School as well.
J&K Governor and chief minister expressed grief over demise of Muhammad Ahsan Ahsan on Wednesday.
Governor N N Vohra in a condolence message has prayed for peace to the departed soul and wished the bereaved family the strength to bear the sad loss.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, condoling the demise of noted literary activist, recalled the vociferous activism of the deceased for the protection of Kashmiri language and culture.
“His absence from the literary scene would be felt for long,” the Chief Minister, who is also the President of J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, said in her statement.
She has conveyed her sympathies with the bereaved family of late Ahsan.
Meanwhile, Minister for Public Works, Naeem Akhtar has also condoled the demise of Ahsan.
In his condolence message, Akhtar said that Ahsan has immensely contributed to literary and social uplift in various capacities, both in his native area of Hajin, Bandipora and other parts of the State.
“His demise is a great loss for the literary community of the state,” he said.
While offering heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, Akhtar has prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
