GDC Ganderbal cruise into semis

Prof Yousuf Memorial CRICKET TOURNAMENT

SRINAGAR: A 121 run stand by openers Fahad Ganie and Basit and five wicket haul by Shahid helped Government Degree College Ganderbal to cruise into semis of Prof Yousuf Memorial Inter College Cricket Cup played at Islamia College of Science and Commerce ground on Wednesday.
Chasing a target of 167 GDC Ganderbal openers Shahid Ganie (52) and Basit (49) stitched a 121 match winning partnership. Both openers played sensibly and helped their side to scale down the set target with 28th over with two wickets in hand.
For GDC Bijbehara Yasin Ahmad took three and Ishfaq took two wickets.
Earlier batting first after winning the toss GDC Bijbehara put a total of 166 runs on the board. They even failed to play their full quota of over’s as their entire batting order crumbled inside 25th over. For them Shakeel Ahmad and Arif were main contributors with bat scoring 29 and 26 runs respectively.
For Ganderbal team Shahid was pick of the bowlers claiming five wicket haul Danish also bagged three wickets.
On Thursday the host college team will play against GDC Baramulla team and on Friday Gandhi Memorial College will lock horns with Islamia College Alumni in third quarter final.
The tournament is organised by the department of Physical Education Islamia College Srinagar.
