Baramulla: Regular traffic jam that last for hours on Srinagar Baramulla highway irks drivers and passengers equally. Many complain that they fail to reach their offices in time.
Transporters say that shopkeepers have occupied parts of the roads and completely taken over pavements on the highway in Pattan, Singpora, Sangrama, Deluna and Baramulla town. This limits movement of vehicles and causes major traffic jam bottlenecks.
Mudasar Ahmad of Pattan said, “I have seen increasingly bad traffic jams from the past several days on this highway due to which we can’t reach our offices in time. Some people parking vehicles on the roads round the clock. Others who come for shopping or other business park their cars on the narrow part of the highway in the town.”
Adil Khan of Tangmarg said that drivers as well as passengers take much longer to get back to their homes because of massive traffic jams in the evenings. “The local police mans the traffic between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. after which people act selfishly and park their vehicles on the road.”
Khan said that on Monday there was a five kilometre long traffic jam between Pattan and Sangrama and it took police about four hours to clear the jam. People have urged concerned authorities to act against violators so that they can’t create problems for others.
