SRINAGAR: National Lok Adalats were today held in Anantnag, Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam and Srinagar districts, wherein over 17000 cases of varying natures in aggregate were taken up for hearing and settlement.
At Srinagar the National Lok Adalat regarding all types of cases was organized today under the chairmanship of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, Rasheed Ali Dar at district court complex Moominabad Srinagar.
Six benches were constituted in which 732 cases were taken up and 428 cases were decided on spot through amicable settlement.
An amount of Rs. 13977632 was settled in all cases including an amount of Rs. 65,06,832 which was settled in consumer claims by presiding officer District Consumer Protection Forum an amount of Rs. 70,00,000 was awarded as compensation in 13 MACT cases by presiding officer MACT Srinagar, an amount of Rs. 4,12,000 was settled in a bank matters and an amount of Rs. 58,800 realized as fine in various challans.
In Anantnag, three benches were constituted for holding a National Lok Adalat organized by the District Legal Service Authority. The Adalat, which was held under the supervision of Addl. District & Session Judge Anantnag, Masrat Shaheen, took up 870 cases related to different issues for settlement. Some 703 cases were settled amicably and an amount of Rs. 3.05 lac was awarded in one MACT case, Rs. 2.10 lac in two bank cases and Rs. 1.25 lac was realized as fine in electric and traffic challans,
Whereas in Bandipora, the National lok Adalat comprising four benches took up as many as 899 cases of various natures and amicably settled 891 cases. A settlement amount of Rs.72.75. lac was also awarded in the Lok Adalat.
In Baramulla, the National Lok Adalat was organized in the premises of the District Court Complex with Principal District and Sessions Judge Rajesh Shekri in chair.
