Young Journalists Association condemns assault on journalist

Srinagar: Young Journalists Association has condemned the assault on one of its members by hospital staff in Bandipora and demanded action against the culprits.
The Association has taken up the issue with Director Health and are going to submit a statement to him.
In a statement issued today the Association said the journalist Ejaz-ul-Haq Bhat, who works with Greater Kashmir, was assaulted by hospital employees while he and his father were in waiting room of operation theatre while his mother was being operated inside the theatre.
While the journalist was already stressed, the attack by employees left the journalist shocked.
The Association said that the attack was an apparent reprisal to the series of reports by the journalist that unearthed a multi-crore scam in the hospital, following which action was taken against few of the officials, including the then BMO.
“An ASHA worker slapped, manhandled and abused me when I and my father were sitting in a waiting room outside the operation theatre. She asked me to get up from our seats. She then pushed my father. When I resisted, she slapped and pushed me too,” said Bhat.
“We were sitting there for about two hours. Till then she didn’t ask us to leave the waiting room. She became violent all of a sudden and started abusing me and my father. Two unknown persons provoked her, after that she got violent. There were three other persons sitting in the waiting room. She didn’t ask them to leave the room but only me and my father.”
An internal inquiry constituted has been initiated by the Health department but so far it has not made any headway.
Chief Medical Officer Bandipora said that they have constituted an inquiry which “will sit again on Thursday”. She said the busy schedule of the staff was a reason for delay in investigation.
