SRINAGAR: The resistance camp and Jama’at-e-Islami have strongly condemned the summoning of Kashmir Bar Association President Miyan Abdul Qayoom by NIA.
Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani in a statement termed the move as a “deep-rooted ploy aimed at depriving prisoners and victims of state from assistance provided by legal experts”.
Hailing lawyers’ fraternity for their “selfless service for the suppressed people”, Geelani said they should be mentally prepared to fight “aggressive, autocratic, illegal and immoral occupation” at all levels.
“The lawyers are conscious, respectable and well learned members of society,” said Geelani and expressed hope that they will fight tooth and nail the “defamation move” launched by NIA.
Geelani urged the resistance leadership, traders’ community, government employees, lawyers’ fraternity and other sections (of society) to unite for “a greater cause of right to self-determination”. “It is a master key and an effective measure to face brutalities perpetrated by Indian authorities,” he said.
Dukhtaran-e-Milalt (DeM) termed the summoning of Mian Qayoom by NIA as a “sinister tactic by India to disturb the daily lives of the pro-resistance people of Kashmir”.
“This is like a soap opera in which to add on new episodes and new characters, twists and plots are added every now and then. This all is just a drama and it will end as a drama ends and it will never become a reality,” DeM secretary general Nahida Nasreen said in a statement.
“Such things won’t deter people of Jammu and Kashmir from their right to determine their own future. Mian Abdul Qayoom has been helping the people of Kashmir, who have been the victims of unjustified and unlawful Indian system, legally. It is for the same reason that NIA has summoned him,” she said. In a statement, Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir expressed deep concern over the summons issued by NIA to Kashmiri pro-freedom leadership and termed it a “well thought out ploy based on political vendetta”.
“Government of India (is) frustrated from the resolve and commitment of Kashmiris who are serving the just and genuine freedom struggle to get the issue resolved as per the UN resolutions. India is shamefully playing dilly dallying tactics to hoodwink the international community (on) one pretext or other,” a party spokesperson said.
He said summoning Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom is a “malicious and denigrated move” and is entirely unacceptable. “Bar Association of Kashmir is a staunch platform of freedom movement that advocates Kashmir dispute in and outside the state for its peaceful and permanent settlement. New Delhi has now targeted the High Court Bar Association for being a devoted supporter of Kashmir conundrum,” he said.
Jama’at expressed complete solidarity with High Court Bar Association and has urged international rights groups to take strong note of the “rights abuses” by New Delhi being to muzzle the “just and genuine demand” of Kashmiris.
Ameer Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM) Dr Muhammad Qasim while condemning the summon, said, “This was a sinister design by India to target pro-resistance people of Kashmir as all other methods to break our resolve have failed.”
In a statement, Dr Qasim said, “This is just a drama and it will die a silent death as (has) happened to the earlier such tactics. Such things won’t deter people of Jammu and Kashmir from their right to determine their future.”
“Since Mian Abdul Qayoom has been legally helping the people and leaders of Kashmir, who have been the victims of unjustified and unlawful Indian system, the NIA has summoned him to pressurise him so that no one comes to their legal aid,” Dr Qasim said.
