Anantnag: Students of Government Degree College (GDC) of Pulwama and Kulgam held protest demonstrations on Tuesday against the “persecution of Rohingya Muslims” in Myanmar.
Hundreds of Rohingyas have been killed and hundreds of thousands displaced in organised violence against the ethnic minority in Myanmar.
Students of GDC Pulwama, including girls, took out a protest rally from their college to the town centre to raise their protest against such persecution.
Demanding an end to the violence against Rohingya Muslims, the students chanted slogans and held up placards.
Minor clashes between the students and government forces also broke out after the forces tried to quell the protests. Nobody was reported injured during the clashes.
In Kulgam, students took out a rally and dispersed peacefully after lodging their protest.
Another group of local youths took out a rally from the bus stand to the nearby mini-secretariat. They, too, dispersed peacefully after the rally was over.
