Sopore encounter: Militants identified, Palhallan tense

Sopore: The two slain militants who died fighting government forces in Baramulla district on Monday have been identified by police.

A brief encounter started between militants and government forces in Shankergund Brath area of Sopore town in the district early today.

The slain militants, reports said, belonged to Hizb ul Mujahideen militant outfit, DGP SP Vaid said in a tweet.

They were identified as Nayeem Ahmad of Brath Kalan Sopore and Ashiq Hussain of Andergam Pattan.

Three AK-47 rifles were recovered from the site of the gunfight.
Reports further said that some intermittent gunshots are heard from the encounter site still and the government forces sense presence of third militant “as three rifles have been reportedly recovered”.

Meanwhile, reports coming from Palhallan town of the district said that atmosphere is tense as people came on streets. “Every business establishment is shut as clashes erupted,” a local said.
