Army vehicle hits cab, two killed

Srinagar: Two persons were killed and five injured on Friday when an army vehicle hit a cab on the Srinagar-Jammu highway at Banihal.
According to reports the speeding army vehicle hit a passenger SUV coming from opposite direction.
Manjeet Singh, 28, son of Jagit Ram, resident of Digdol and Nisar Ahmad, 38, a resident of Baderwah died on the spot. Nisar was a policeman currently posted with prisons department.
It was a head-on collision between the two vehicles near Chamalwas, SHO PS Banihal told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the army vehicle has been seized by the police while as the driver has been arrested.
The injured persons were identified as Mohammad Tariq, s/o Abdullah, resident of Ransu Budgam; Fayaz Ahmad s/o Ghulam Mohammad, r/o Manchar Kupwara; Dilshada Begum w/o Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh, r/o Alinbass Pogal Paristan, Banihal; Irshad Ahmed Najar, s/o Khajar Mohammad Najar, r/o Pulwama and Mukhtar Ahmad, s/o Ab Aziz Khan, r/o Krawa Banihal.
The SHO said that police have registered an FIR number 138/2017 U/S 279/304-A RPC into the incident.
Police have also lodged an FIR under section 353 RPC against Commanding Officer 12 RR and a Major for interfering with the investigation.
The Commanding officer Samrash Chatterji and Major Deepak had reached the spot allegedly threatened the officers on duty.
