Srinagar: Rajiv Mehrishi, IAS (RJ:78), who retired Thursday as the Union Home Secretary is likely to become the new Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, reports quoting sources said.
As per a report carried in new portal Bureaucracy Today, the Central Government has already finalised the name of Mehrishi, considered close to the NDA Government, for the top post after the incumbent JK Governor NN Vohra wrote to the Centre asking for his replacement citing his old age and poor health.
81-year-old Vohra, IAS (Retd) (PB:59), became the JK Governor on June 25, 2008. He is currently serving his second term. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2007 for his services.
Mehrishi, who was to retire on August 31, 2015 as Finance Secretary, was given two-year extension by the Centre and was appointed as the Home Secretary.
