Budgam: Residents of the Peth Kawoosa village in Budgam district Saturday assembled on the Srinagar-Gulmarg highway to protest the water scarcity resulting in massive halt of traffic on both sides of the highway.
Owais Ahmad, a local told Kashmir Reader that little attention is being paid to developing and people-friendly infrastructure in the area. He demanded that the government should quickly resolve the crisis.
Another protester warned that they will hit the streets if their demands are not fulfilled.
“The worst sufferers are the women who have to collect drinking water some 3 km away,” he added.
“Instead of addressing the issues faced by people, the government is focused on abrogation of Article 35A,” the angry protester said.
The protest was later called off after the intervention of higher officials.
