SRINAGAR: Despite allotment of tenders, the Roads and Buildings department has not been able to ensure the macadamization of road stretch between the police station in Khanyar and the city gate in Babdemb.
Commuters say that they suffer because of the bumpy, dusty ride. They say that the road is dotted with potholes. “In the other areas, macadamization work has been completed. We can’t understand why delay in work on this road despite repeated assurances by officers in the concerned department. They make excuses like SMC has to look in drainage,” said Farooq Wani, a resident of Khanyar area.
“There is a lack of coordination between different departments which is the main reasons for stalling drainage work construction,” said Bilal Ahmad, a shopkeeper in Babdemb. “The R&B department constructs a road, and SMC digs it for drainage but does not repair it.”
He further said that the number of three wheeler drivers and bikers has lost their control on this road and scores of vehicles have been damaged.
Winter months in Kashmir are too cold for macadamization and other construction work. Executive Engineer Right River Circular Road Nayeem Khan told Kashmir Reader that the construction work was going to start within two weeks and will be completed much earlier.
