Gunfight rages in north Kashmir’s Handwara

Srinagar: A gunfight between government forces and militants has started in the forest area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, reports said on Tuesday.
The gunfight started after militants fired on a joint team of Special Operations Group (SOG) and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) personnel who had cordoned off the Hingnikoot Ramhal locality in the forests.
The forces were conducting a search operation based on specific information about the presence of militants, sources said.
Reports quoting sources said that two or three militants are believed to be trapped in the area. Intermittent firing has been taking place.
