SRINAGAR: A paediatrician accused by a news portal and an Urdu newspaper of medical negligence at Sopore Hospital has said he will file a defamation suit against both the news organisations.
Dr Suhail Naik, a child specialist posted at Sub-district Hospital, Sopore, told Kashmir Reader that he had explained his version to the health department officials after allegations against him were published in a news portal and an Urdu newspaper last week.
“I will file a defamation suit against the news organisations for tarnishing my reputation by publishing concocted stories without verifying facts. I am waiting for the response from the health department before I start legal action against them,” he said.
The news portal had alleged that the paediatrician was absent from SDH Sopore on August 15, 16 and 17, which put the life of newborn babies at risk.
Dr Naik said that he explained his absence in a letter to senior officials of the health department. He said that the allegations published in the press were totally false, fabricated and concocted, and had been published to tarnish his image.
“I was on night duty on August 15 and I had a pre and post-night off on 15th and 16th August. On the 17th I was asked to attend a meeting at the CMO office in Baramulla, the records of which can be checked,” he said.
Dr Naik said that enough doctors were present in the hospital as per rooster duty.
“As such, all the allegations in the news item are false, baseless, unscientific and far from any truth, devoid of any merit. They have just been published to tarnish the image of the health department and of me in particular, to satisfy personal vendetta, for which I reserve the right to start proper legal proceedings against these news organisations,” Dr Naik said.
