PHE delays plugging leakages in Sopore pipeline

Sopore: Failure in plugging leakages in the pipeline feeding water to the populous Sopore town has resulted into acute water crisis in the northern town.
Residents around main chowk Sopore complain that they are facing tough time due to water leakage from a damaged water pipe resulting in waterlogging in the heart of Apple town.
The damage of the water pipe has also created water shortage in main town.
People alleged the leakage is happening since two months and blamed PHE department for neglect.
“They don’t pay any heed towards the damaged pipeline and the leakage that too in the heart of the town”, said Mohammed Shafi Lara, a local resident.
Residents also said PHE department has failed to restore the damaged water pipelines in main chowk, downtown, Iqbal market, Chankhan and other areas.
The transporters, shopkeepers, commuters and vendors in main chowk face problems when they pass the area due to a huge pothole created by the water leakage.
A major supply line recently burst at main chowk area of Sopore and flooded the entire road stretch.
The Public Health Engineering (PHE) department has failed to repair the leakages even as the matter was brought to its notice several times by local residents.
Executive engineer PHE Sopore, Mohammad Shafi said the PHE department has pressed engineers and other manpower into the service to repair the damaged pipeline. He said the water supply will be restored soon in the area.
