Three militants die in Shopian encounter

Srinagar: Police on Sunday said that three militants died in the ongoing encounter in Shopian.

The encounter started between government forces and militants in Awneera village of Shopian on Saturday afternoon.
“Three militants were killed in the gun fight,” police said. However, the identity of the of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier, two Indian army men were killed while four others were injured who have been airlifted to Srinagar based army hospital in Badamibagh.

The area witnessed huge pro-freedom protests by the civilian population which tried to help the militants during which many were injured.

An army spokesperson too confirmed that three militants were killed in the encounter while as the operation was in progress when this report was filed.
