Newborn’s death triggers protest in Sopore

Sopore: A case was registered against doctors of sub-district hospital of Sopore over the death of a newborn boy on Friday. The relatives of the deceased infant protested against the alleged negligence of doctors before approaching police to file a report.
Father of newborn boy, Mehrajuddin, a resident of Watlab Sopore told Kashmir Reader that the baby died due to abject negligent attitude of doctors at the sub-district hospital of Sopore. “My wife gave birth to a male baby yesterday. It was a normal delivery. The doctors termed the baby safe but later asked us to take the baby to GB Pant hospital in Srinagar as a precautionary measure. In desperation, we shifted the baby to Srinagar but the doctors there told us that the child was in critical condition with less chances of survival. On inquiry they told us that he has suffered head injury during delivery,” Mehrajuddin said.
As the news about the infant’s death reached Sopore, Mehrajuddin’s relatives staged protest in the premises of Sopore hospital. The police later arrived at the spot and filed a case against doctors for their alleged negligence. “An FIR (237/17) has been registered and investigation started,” police said.
However, the Block Medical Officer Sopore refuted all charges of negligence. “The baby died due to complications. The doctors at our hospital tried their best to save him but no one can go against God’s will,” he told Kashmir Reader.
