Srinagar: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday employed hundreds of workers in a cleanliness drive launched in Nallah mar, Rajouri Kadal, Khanyar, Noor Bagh, Safa Kadal, Gowjawar, Hawal, Zadibal, Soura, 90 feet road, Buchpora, Bye –pass and other areas.
The drive was spearheaded by Chief Sanitation Officer Muhammad Akbar Sofi, and local sanitation officers and ward officers participated in the drive.
Besides 300 sanitary workers, the SMC deployed machinery, including water tankers and robots, to clear spots where there were complaints of garbage. Grass-cutting machines and disinfectant sprayers were also used on the main stretch connecting the old city with Buchpora.
Several interior areas were also brought under the drive.
Chief Sanitation Officer Sofi asked people to approach the SMC’s helpline in case of any unattended garbage for “a swift response”.
“The SMC will respond quickly in case of any complaint and ensure the citizens do not face inconvenience on account of unhygienic conditions,” said Sofi.
SMC Commissioner Dr. Shafqat Khan said special focus will be put on keeping the areas of Sher-i-Khaas clean.
