Article 35A was Dogra king’s decision: Omar

Srinagar: Asserting that the opposition to removal of Article 35A is not anti-Jammu or anti-Ladakh, National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah said on Monday that it is amazing that people who talk about protecting Dogra heritage and culture forget that ‘State Subject Laws’ were Maharaja Hari Singh’s decision.
“Maharaja Hari Singh introduced State Subject laws to protect lands & jobs, primarily to safeguard Jammu from people of neighbouring states,” he said.
He said that removal of 35A will do grave damage to Dogriyat, the identity and culture of the Dogras. “Our opposition to any dilution of 35A is not to benefit one region at the cost of another but to safeguard the state as a whole,” he wrote.
In a series of tweets, Abdullah lashed out at people who were criticising opposition political parties for opposing removal of Article 35A.
“To oppose the removal of Article 35A is not anti-Jammu or anti-Ladakh. Its removal will have grave consequences for people living in Jammu & Ladakh,” Abdullah wrote on Twitter.
