SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) on Saturday said use of “military might” is the only way government chooses to deal with the sentiment and political aspirations of people of Kashmir.
A spokesperson of Hurriyat (M) in a statement said, “Unless Kashmir issue is addressed, (the) resistance to repression and for justice will manifest itself in one way or other but will not die.”
He strongly condemned the firing on protestors in Saderkoot, Bandipora by government forces in which three people have been critically injured. It also denounced the imposition of curfew and restrictions in old town Baramulla in north Kashmir.
Paying tributes to militants Abid Hamid Mir and Javeed Ahmad Dar who were killed in Sopore by government forces during a gunfight, the spokesperson said “our youth have been pushed to the wall to resist occupation and are getting martyred in their quest for justice and resolution of the Kashmir dispute”.
He said schools, colleges and universities are repeatedly being closed by authorities “as a policy to contain student agitation against oppression”. “Last year great deal of concern was shown by authorities regarding the education of Kashmiri students but since early this year, educational institutions are repeatedly shut down. Does it not matter now?”
“Another way to contain the situation is blocking internet services randomly and repeatedly. Despite such severe repression and curbs, people of Kashmir are coming out on streets to register their protest against oppression and killings and resistance to occupation,” he said.
The spokesperson termed it “ridiculous propaganda” that anyone gets paid for protesting. He said people protest as there is “severe repression and suppression” in every form and youth and civilians are “mercilessly” killed by forces.
