SRINAGAR: Following the call by the joint resistance leadership, pro-freedom leaders and activists on Saturday staged protest at Budshah Chowk here against the “continuous bloodshed”, detentions, and NIA raids. Many leaders also addressed the rally.
The protest was led by JKLF’s Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Hurriyat Conference (G)’s Merajuddin Rabbani, Hurriyat Conference (M) Muhammad Yaqoob Masoodi and attended by dozens of resistance leaders and activists. Later they held a peaceful sit-in there.
The leaders in their addresses said arrests by NIA and ED, “torturing” and prolonging the detention of leaders including Shabir Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Shahid-ul-Islam, Akbar Ayaz, Peer Saifullah, Raja Meraj-ud-din Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar, and Devendar Singh Behal are aimed at “diverting the attention from ongoing genocide of Kashmiris, defame and demonise Kashmiri resistance leadership and gagging the genuine voices of Kashmiri nation”. They said prolonging the incarceration of thousands languishing in jails and police stations is “highly undemocratic and unethical”.
“On one hand, killing of innocents continues unabated, and on other (side), arbitrary arrests, false and concocted media trial of resistance leadership, and other oppressive measures continue without any break.”
They said the “oppressive ploy and deceitful tactics” played through NIA are meant to “hide Indian oppression” and divert the attention of the international community and Indian people from ongoing “innocent killings and genocide” of Kashmiris.
“We want to convey to Indian rulers and their Kashmiri stooges that these oppressive measures and deceitful tactics will yield them nothing but shame. Kashmiris have and are rendering valuable sacrifices for their freedom and self determination and tactics these can never break the will of our nation,” they said.
They said besides arresting the resistance leadership, the “so-called” rulers have converted whole Kashmir into a big prison. “History bears witness to the fact that killings, incarcerating people, and unleashing reign of terror has never succeeded in breaking the will of people who have resolved to strive for their freedom.”
“Indian leaders and their Kashmiri stooges should remember that according to the law of retribution, they will have to answer for their crimes against humanity one day,” they said.
