SRINAGAR: Both factions of Hurriyat Conference have expressed grief over the killing of one more civilian Aqeel Ahmad of Gabarpora, Pulwama who succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. Aqeel was injured on Tuesday after hit by a bullet fired by government forces.
In a statement, Hurriyat Conference (G) said forces feel trigger happy and resort to “unproportionate and unjustified” force against peaceful civilians. The party expressed condolence and sympathy with the grieved family.
Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement said people of Kashmir are paying a huge price for standing up for their “just cause” and resolution of the dispute. “It is a crucial phase in our struggle that we are going through as the government of India is using all methods and ploys to crush us and our political movement. People have to be vigilant against these ploys and safeguard the great sacrifices made by one and all,” he said.
“Even the hospital was not spared where a nurse and young girl were shot at,” Mirwaiz said, adding, “While the people of entire valley are a target for the government, the people of south Kashmir are bearing the maximum brunt of state repression while people of downtown are specifically subjected to physical and mental torture to teach them a ‘lesson’.”
Meanwhile, as per a statement, the Tehreek-e-Huriyat leaders and activists offered funeral prayers in absentia for militant who was killed in gunfight in Hakhripora, Pulwama.
